I just got back from watching Star Wars: Episode III not too long ago, and
I can’t stop thinking about it. What a great way to end a series (or shall
I also say begin a series?), but it’s also quite sad to know that there
are no more Star Wars films to look forward to. Anyhoo, it left me wanting
more.
Here are some random thoughts:
- Yoda, as usual, steals the show on this one. Yeah, he’s sporting a
lightsaber again and performs the same Jedi acrobatics as he did in the
previous film, but what I love most about him in this movie is the great
human-ness he shows. In particular, during the sequence when the Jedis
are systematically being eliminated, the pain in his face really tugged
at my heart strings. Funny that a computer animated character can do that.
- Given that, Yoda also is DA MAN. I luuuurved how he took out two red Imperial
guards with a simple motion of his arm. AWESOME!
- After his defeat from the Emperor, Yoda’s rescue reminds me of Luke’s from
Empire Strikes Back after he faced Vader.
- The scene where Anakin must choose between Light and Dark completely mirrors
that from Jedi, complete with a flurry of that blue, electrical dark side
energy. Nice touch, as it makes Vader’s decision in Jedi to choose his son
over the Emperor (my absolute favorite Star Wars moment!) even more
poignant.
- There’s a scene when Yoda leaves the Wookie planet, which reminds me a lot
of E.T. entering his spaceship to finally go home. From the egg-shaped
ship, to how the “door” closes in that spirally kinda way…. I wonder if
it was a homage to his pal Spielberg (as Spielberg did when he had someone
in a Yoda costume walking around in the Halloween scene).
All in all, a fun experience. I wanna see it again!
