From Charlie Kaufman’s brilliant script for the film Adaptation:

“You are what you love, not what loves you.”

Here’s a fun read (particularly if you’re procrastinating from doing work!): wikiHow is a collection of how-to manuals which includes pretty much anything you can think of, from the technical (“How to Install Windows”) to the spiritual (“How to Find God”), from the practical (“How to Buy a House”) to the nonsensical (“How to Spin a Pencil Around Your Thumb” or “How to Draw Bubble Letters”).

If anything, reading the titles are entertaining. And you never know, you might learn something that could come in handy in dire situations, like “How to Sweep a Girl Off Her Feet,” or “How to Win a Street Fight,” and especially “How to Survive a Freestyle Rap Battle.” LOL

cilibrar and I had been itching to create an online game, initially thinking about developing a Kingdom of Loathing clone. We realized that was too involved, and the project required too much maintenance. Ideally, we wanted to create something that we could program, and then sit back to just watch it grow.

Hence, we’ve created HouseSudoku, an online, competitive version of the extremely popular numbers puzzle. Over a meal of dim sum, cilibrar and I discussed the game’s particulars, then it took us a month or so to finally start programming. He spent about a week writing the backend; I created the frontend in another. After a several days of debugging, we think we have a fairly solid app going… or so we think! lol

Still several improvements are in the works, but it’s fairly playable and perhaps ready to earn us some advertising revenue. hehe.

The Criminal Mind

A recent tragedy has prompted another small obsession which I tend to get into every year or so. The slaying of a family of 7 in Indianapolis last Thursday had me scouring various websites for more details on the family and particularly the gunmen who performed this horrific deed. What was their motive? What kind of people were they?

As of today, we still have yet to find out the answers, as the mastermind behind the crime just turned himself in yesterday. We do know that the police think the murderers thought the family had a huge stash of cash and valuables in their home, which turned out to be false. However, we are still waiting to hear the entire story.

Meanwhile, thirsty for more crime stories, I started revisiting famous cases within the last few years, such as the Beltway Sniper, the Laci Peterson case, BTK. I finally wound up at CrimeLibrary.com, which contains an extensive collection of articles about serial killers and mass murderers, from Lizzie Borden to the Zodiac Killer. It has kept me busy for several hours and subsequently has made me feel a bit paranoid, but nonetheless has very interesting insights into the minds of these killers.

A recommended site, but do not read when you are home alone!
